Regional IGFs

Many countries and regions have held to date regional and national IGFs in order to support the global IGF. The attendees engage in discussing the technical, organizational and legal issues related to the national Internet use. These regional venues enable an in-depth and efficient analysis of the Internet governance issues at the local level; this knowledge can be subsequently transferred into conclusions and recommendations elaborated at the global IGF by the national governments, businesses and the Internet community.

Russia was a part of the global IGF since its first meeting. In 2010, Russia joined the group of regionally held IGFs. The Russian Internet Governance Forum hosted by the Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ and supported by the Ministry of Mass Communications of the Russian Federation became a groundbreaking event for both Russia and Eastern Europe. Russian Internet Governance Forum is staged every year and combined with an anniversary of .RU TLD on April, 7.
